BIO

Alexandra Panou (GR, 1992) is a costume designer and visual artist based in Belgium. Born and raised in Athens, she studied Theatre Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in dramaturgy, before moving to Belgium in 2020 to study Costume Design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp, where she completed both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in 2024.

Her practice unfolds at the intersection of costume, performance, and installation, approaching costume as a dramaturgical language rather than a decorative element. Through material research, she explores how garments embody psychological states, memory, vulnerability, and power. Textile density, weaving, transparency, and texture become structural tools that shape both the body and the narrative.

Working with found materials alongside handcrafted elements, she recontextualizes everyday objects into garments that question identity, social expectations, and the relationship between the body and its environment. Her work is driven by an interest in the transformation of materials, bodies, and the emotional landscapes they inhabit.

Alongside her independent artistic practice, she has contributed to theatre, performance, and film productions in Belgium and Greece, while continuing to develop a personal artistic language that approaches costume as both a performative and critical medium.
